Lunenburg County's Master Commissioner of the Revenue, Liz Hamlett, formally announces her candidacy for re-election in the November 5, 2019 general election.
Liz Hamlett is seeking re-election to the office of Commissioner of the Revenue for Lunenburg County. After working in the office for 10 years and holding the office of Commissioner for over 5 years, Liz humbly asks for your vote to continue to serve the citizens of Lunenburg County.
Liz began working in the Commissioner's office in 2009, as Chief Deputy Commissioner of the Revenue under her predecessor, the Honorable Patricia M. Adams. Upon Adams's retirement, Liz was sworn into office as Commissioner. She was elected to fulfill the remainder of Adams's 4-year term in 2014. In 2015, the citizens of Lunenburg County elected Liz to serve a 4-year term as Commissioner of the Revenue.
As the chief tax-assessing officer, Liz administers equitable assessments for individuals and businesses. Throughout her tenure as Commissioner, Liz was vital in implementing a new mass appraisal program, making real estate assessment information available online for the first time in Lunenburg. She was also integral in the conversion of tax maps to a searchable GIS program.
Liz is an active and highly regarded member of the Commissioners of the Revenue Association of Virginia. In 2016, her colleagues nominated her to serve as the Secretary of the Commissioner's Association. Liz continues to hold the office of secretary on the executive board of the Commissioners' Association. She has been elected as vice-chair of the Central District Commissioners, serving twice in that capacity. She also holds membership in the Virginia Association of Assessing Officers (VAAO), Virginia Association of Local Tax Auditors (VALTA), Virginia Association of Local Elected Constitutional Officers (VALECO), and the Commissioners of the Revenue Political Action Committee (CORPAC).
In 2017, Liz earned her master certification from the University of Virginia's Weldon Cooper Center for Public Service. The program identifies criteria by which to measure professional designation, monitors the level of achievement, and maintains associated records. The Master designation demonstrates the advanced knowledge, competency, and professional accomplishment of Commissioners and Deputies.
Liz has the experience and expertise to continue to effectively serve the citizens of Lunenburg County as their Commissioner of the Revenue.
