Achievements As Your Commissioner
Elizabeth "Liz" Hamlett was hired as Deputy Commissioner of the Revenue in April 2009. Just four months later, Liz was promoted to Chief Deputy Commissioner. Liz was appointed to office as Commissioner upon the retirement of long-time Commissioner, Patricia M. Adams, in September 2013.
Liz won her first election in November, 2014. She was re-elected in 2015.
In 2017, Liz earned her master certification from the University of Virginia's Weldon Cooper Center for Public Service. The program identifies criteria by which to measure professional designation, monitors the level of achievement, and maintains associated records. The Master designation demonstrates the advanced knowledge, competency, and professional accomplishment of Commissioners and Deputies
Liz Hamlett was recently honnored by helping Lunnenburg to become one of the first in the Commonwealth of Virginia to become accredited. Accreditation is awarded only to offices which have met the rigorous standards set forth by the Commissioners' Association. The 12 standards include educational requirements for the commissioner and staff, customer service, personel and ethics policies as well as assesment methodology. Each office recfeiving accreditiation has undergone an audit to ensure compliance and will be required to annually domonstrate they continue to meet theses standards.
At the 100th annual CORVA conference, Commissioner Liz Hamlett was recognized and honored with a President’s Award by Association President, Doug Mullins, for her dedication and service. This was one of only four President’s Awards given to commissioners in the Commonwealth.
